    Publishing, Rebus Community

    Apurva studied literature and marketing at McGill University and completed the Master of Publishing program at Simon Fraser University. Her experience ranges across academic publishing, media, social justice, and volunteerism, and in 2015, she co-founded Harf, a student-run journal on South Asian studies. She strongly believes in translating knowledge among communities and regions, and in the value of greater critical thinking for all.

    Basak helps bring together people, technologies, and a vision for change – both entrepreneurial and cultural. As a filmmaker, she has addressed women’s and social issues, and in 2017 she founded the non-profit, Supper Society, an organization that helps newcomers to Canada meet and interact with local residents.

    Cesar Cerqueda is a passionate and multidisciplinary interaction designer based in Montreal. As a front-end developer and UX designer, his interests lie in the creation and implementation of simple interactive solutions for the complex needs of users. In 2015, he earned a master’s degree in interaction design (human-computer interaction) from Universite Laval.

  • Leigh Kinch-Pedrosa

    Marketing and Communications

    Leigh is a producer, writer, and autobiographical storyteller. She has produced live storytelling shows and art installations, and developed a series of workshops that encourage entrepreneurs and academics to use personal storytelling to communicate complex ideas. She is also the creator of Food Core/Essence Culinaire, an interactive culinary learning experience at Phi Centre in Montreal.

    Software, Rebus Community

    Andrew is interested in wild ideas and the challenges of software design, particularly when applied to human-focused causes. He loves databases and text-search architectures, and has done development in many languages. These days, he mostly sticks to NodeJS. He has a passion for renovation, wood working, photography, hiking, and cooking, and when possible, hibernates and hermits in the Laurentians, north of Montreal.

    Executive Director

    Hugh has been building tools and communities to bring books onto the open web since about 2005. He is the founder of (free public domain audiobooks, made by volunteers from around the world), Pressbooks (an open source book publishing platform built on WordPress). Along with Brian O’Leary, he is the co-editor of Book: A Futurist’s Manifesto – Essays from the bleeding edge of publishing.

    Marie is a self-taught web developer who is actively involved in the local tech community. Earlier, she spent many years at university studying a wide array of things, including biology, psychology, and political science. She has a master’s degree in history from Concordia, specializing in oral history. Her interest in programming stems from her passion for learning and the idea that technology can be used to make the world a better place.

    Zoe worked in media communications and academic administration in New Zealand before completing the Master of Publishing program at Simon Fraser University. Having gained an alternative view of academic publishing, she is now focused on creating value-exchange systems that support better, more democratic access to knowledge and learning.
