Apurva Ashok
Assistant Director, The Rebus Foundation Director of Open Education, The Rebus FoundationApurva leads Open Education initiatives at The Rebus Foundation, primarily through the Rebus Community. She helps educational institutions build human capacity in OER publishing through professional development offerings such as the Textbook Success Program. Apurva studied literature and marketing at McGill University and completed the Master of Publishing program at Simon Fraser University. Her experience ranges across academic publishing, media, social justice, and volunteerism. In 2020, Apurva received an Open Education Award for Excellence from Open Education Global in recognition of her contributions to the field. She strongly believes in translating knowledge among communities and regions, and in the value of greater critical thinking for all.

Hugh McGuire
Executive Director, The Rebus FoundationHugh has been building tools and communities to bring books onto the open web since about 2005. He is the founder of LibriVox.org (free public domain audiobooks, made by volunteers from around the world), Pressbooks (an open source book publishing platform built on WordPress). Along with Brian O’Leary, he is the co-editor of Book: A Futurist’s Manifesto – Essays from the bleeding edge of publishing.

Marie Pelletier
Software, Rebus InkMarie is a self-taught web developer who is actively involved in the local tech community. Earlier, she spent many years at university studying a wide array of things, including biology, psychology, and political science. She has a master’s degree in history from Concordia, specializing in oral history. Her interest in programming stems from her passion for learning and the idea that technology can be used to make the world a better place.

Kaitlin Schilling
Associate Program Manager, Rebus CommunityKaitlin studied psychology at the University of Windsor prior to completing her graduate certificate in public administration from Humber College. She has previous experience in community-based program delivery across Canada, communications, and most recently post secondary education. A former participant of the Textbook Success Program, Kaitlin is committed to inclusive and accessible storytelling. Her enthusiasm for open education is rooted in her firm belief in expanding access to knowledge with a focus on equity.

Zoe Wake Hyde
Project Lead, Rebus InkZoe worked in media communications and academic administration in New Zealand before completing the Master of Publishing program at Simon Fraser University. Having gained an alternative view of academic publishing, she is now focused on creating value-exchange systems that support better, more democratic access to knowledge and learning.

Joerdis Weilandt
Assistant Program Manager, Rebus CommunityWith a background in culture studies and modern language teaching, Joerdis has been supporting students and (teacher) colleagues in a variety of (inter)national settings before coming to Rebus. A lover of (open) learning, she believes in the power of community to generate positive change, build stimulating connections, and share transformative teachings.
